The Long Wavelength Array (LWA) is a radio telescope operating between 10 MHz and 88 MHz, exploring the Universe at the lowest frequencies observable from the ground. Located in central New Mexico, the LWA currently consists of three stations—LWA1, LWA-SV, and LWA-NA—operated by the University of New Mexico.

For this project, intermediate graphic design students at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign were asked to meet with the project principle investigators to understand the project and then to design an identity for the project to be used for all project branding. One student direction was chosen by the LWA committee and implemented.
